Our Focus

In order to be effective and have the greatest conservation impact, the Trust concentrates its land protection work based on the following criteria.

Size - Acreage
The remaining large open tracts of
land are our highest priority.

Environmental Significance
Properties with significant environmental features might include wetlands, water resources, floodplains, woodland, steepslopes, andbiological diversity

Location/Proximity to Protected Lands
Lands that are in close proximity to existing protected lands offer the opportunity to expand and create a contiguous open corridor.

Scenic Significance
We seek to protect lands with scenic views primarily from public roads, or from preserved trail areas. These are the lands that have shaped Willistown’s rural and natural character and remain important to our quality of life.

Historic Significance
Lands located in or near an Historic District, on or determined eligible for listing on the National Register for Historic Places, identified on Township or County Historic Resources Inventory, are highly desirable for conservation.

Recreation
Properties with existing or potential passive recreational activities, including trails and equestrian activities.
